One more day in Valdez

After everyone was up and about this morning, the decision was made to stay here one more day.  It started out being cloudy then the sun came out then the clouds rolled back in.  Glen and Gayla boiled king crab legs for all of us this evening.  They were delicious.
Gary and I decided to do a little driving around the area this afternoon.  One of our destinations was the fish hatchery area.  We were amazed at how far the water receded at low tide there.  Several people were fishing there.  Salmon do not bite a hook so they have to snag them.  The most amazing site was the number of eagles there.  They were all along the water line and in the trees just waiting for the opportunity for a fish.  I heard that half of all eagles in North America are in Alaska.  I believe there was at least 50 along the route we took today.
The highlight of the day was driving to the area where the old town was located and finding 3 young grizzlies eating and frolicking there.  We watched them for about an hour - had to kind of follow them (in the truck, of course) along the road and coast line.  They really put on a show.  At one point, one of them found a large bone and lay on his back playing with it.  They also wrestled around with each other a lot.  Of course, with my so so camera I didn't get great pictures but it wasn't for lack of trying.
