Our day started and ended in the rain. The mountain peaks were covered with clouds, which is it's own kind of beauty. The highway was very diverse with some of it quite good and other parts similar to a roller coaster ride.
We did see 2 moose. The first one Gary spotted as we past a small clearing. We called back to the others on the walkie-talkie but as they slowed down he/she hurried into the brush. Gary then saw movement in the trees a little way down the road. It was a moose and we all got stopped. This one was very cooperative and we got some good pictures. There were also many Trumpeter Swans in a lake area. Many of my pictures may have rain drops showing as they were taken through the windows.
It was rainy and cloudy when we reached the Matanuska Glacier so we didn't really get good pictures of it. The glacier extends 27 miles. Some 18,000 years ago, the glacier reached all the way to the Palmer area (35 or 40 mi. from Anchorage). The glacier's average width is 2 miles and it its widest is 4 miles. It has remained fairly stable for the last 400 years.
We were fueling at Palmer when Glen and family drove in. It was quite a surprise. Their daughter and family flew in last night. As you will remember, Glen and Gayla left their motor home in Grand Prairie, Alberta for repairs and drove here in their pickup and rented a small motor home while their daughter and family are here.
We are set up for a couple of days at the Golden Nugget RV Park in Anchorage.
