Whitehorse to Destruction Bay - June 12, 2014

Our drive today was shorter that some we have made, less than 200 miles.  There was still beautiful scenery along the way.  We spotted 3 grizzly bears along the way.  I got a picture of two of they from far away.  The other one was much too fast for me to get a shot.  We also saw Trumpeter Swans but again were far away and we didn't always get stopped.

We stopped for a while at the Da Ku Culture Center.  There are quite a few very nice centers.  Several years ago the First Nation Tribes entered into a settlement with the Canadian government for payment of some of the land that was denied to them in the early days.  Many of these culture centers were built with that money.   While we were there Jeff and Marcella inquired about hiking and we watched a film about the Kluane National Park.  It was very informative and the scenery beautiful.

Our destination of the Cottonwood RV Park is located on picturesque Kluane Lake.  There was only one site next to the lake but they are all in sight of the lake.  When we arrived there were just ripples on the lake but not so the next morning.  The wind was blowing white caps on the water and the temperature was 40 degrees.

After we all got set up, 5 of us (all except Gary, the smart one) went on a hike.  I thought it was to be a moderate one.  It was pretty challenging for me.  The terrain was all "up", hardly a flat area on it.  Needless there were many rest/drink stops for me.  Coming down had its own challenge - hard on the knees and toes.  The view at the "top for us" was fabulous.

Our traveling companions cooked a delicious pork chop dinner for all of us.
